Backing Up and Restoring the Windows XP Registry

Type ( regedit ) in the run Box to access the registry

CHANGE IE TITLE BAR TEXT

Start Run Regedit
Registry Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
Modify/Create the Value Name Window Title according to the Value Data listed below.
Data Type: REG_SZ String Value // Value Name: Window Title
Value Data: Enter The Text Desired In Title Bar
Exit and Reboot

CUSTOMIZE WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER TITLE BAR

Start Run Regedit
Registry Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft
Create the Key WindowsMediaPlayer.
Modify/Create the Value Name TitleBar according to the Value Data listed below.
Data Type: REG_SZ String Value // Value Name: TitleBar
Value Data: Enter the text to be displayed in the title bar.Note: Whatever text you enter as the value data will be preceded by:
Windows Media Player provided by, so if I had entered text of [winfoxp], it would read:
Windows Media Player provided by winfoxp
Exit and Reboot

DISABLE THE AUTOMATIC UPDATING OF FILE ACCESS TIME.

Start Run Regedit

Registry Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINES\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem. Add a new Dword (if missing) and name it NtfsDisableLastAccessUpdate. Set value to 1 to delete this feature.

ENABLE/DISABLE MEDIA PLAYER AUTOMATIC UPDATE MESSAGE

Start Run Regedit
Registry Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\PlayerUpgrade
Modify/Create the Value Name AskMeAgain according to the Value Data listed below.
Data Type: REG_SZ [String Value] // Value Name: AskMeAgain
Value Data: No = Disabled / Yes = Enabled

INCREASE SPEED BY TWEAKING PREFETCHER SETTINGS.


This is an unique technique for XP, which could improve the performance significantly by tweaking the prefetcher. Recommended hardware: PIII 800 or higher, 512M RAM or more.
run "regedit";
goto [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/ControlSession ManagerMemory ManagementPrefetchParametersEnablePrefetcher];
Set the value to either 0-Disable, 1-App launch prefetch, 2-Boot Prefetch, 3-Both ("3" is recommended).
Reboot.
It will decrease the boot time and increase the performance of  XP.

MINIMIZE OUTLOOK 2002 TO THE SYSTEM TRAY

Start Run Regedit

Data Type: DWORD // Value Name: MinToTray
Setting for Value Data: 0 = Disabled / 1 = Enabled

Start Run Regedit
Registry Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Protected Storage System Provider
/Right click to Export/ Create unique name/ Save/ Exit/ Re-Boot.

Start Run Regedit
Registry Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Protected Storage System Provider/Right click/ Select permissions/ Set Read, and Full Control to Allow/ Click Advanced Button/ Select Permissions Tab/ Click apply/ Click Yes/

Start Run Regedit
Registry Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Protected Storage System Provider/ Click Delete Exit Registry and Reboot. Re-enter password.

REMOVE HISTORY IN INTERNET EXPLORER ADDRESS BAR.


Click on Start, then Run.
Type regedit in the box.
In Regedit navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Internet Explorer/Typed URLs
Then just delete all of the keys that list the URL's you no longer want to see.

Modify/Create the Value Name FullScreen according to the Value Data listed below.

Value Data: 0 = Disabled / 1 = Enabled

Registry Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\InternetExplorer\Main
Modify/Create the Value Name FullScreen according to the Value Data listed below.
Data Type: REG_SZ String Value // Value Name: FullScreen
Value Data: Modify Value to (Yes)

SPEED UP MENU DISPLAY.

When using the start menu the you will notice a delay between different tiers of the menu hierarchy. For the fastest computer experience possible I recommend changing this value to zero. This will allow the different tiers to appear instantly.
Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USERControl PanelDesktop
Select MenuShowDelay from the list on the right.
Right on it and select Modify.
Change the value to 0.
Reboot your computer.
